*Radio interview with Angela Bassett aired this morning

Angela Bassett reminds us to wear red!
(from the Bob Rivers Show)
Award-winning actress Angela Bassett is a You've seen Angela Bassett star in films like "Akeelah and the Bee," "Waiting to Exhale," "How Stella Got Her Groove Back," and perhaps most famously as Tina Turner in "What's Love Got to Do with It."

But the award-winning actress is also a spokesperson for National Wear Red Day, February 2. The day is part of a campaign called The Heart Truth, a national awareness campaign for women about heart disease. You can show your support by wearing red tomorrow! Click HERE for more details.

"The myth is that heart disease is a man's problem, and it often leads women to disregard their own risk," Angela explained to us. This national campaign is hoping to inspire women to do what they can to take control of their heart health.

"1 in 3 women will die of heart disease," she added, "but when you ask women what condition are they most fearful of, they don't say heart disease, they say cancer, maybe breast cancer in particular." This despite the fact that heart disease "beats that out by 6 times."

Angela is known for being very aware of her status as a role model to African-American women, and has famously turned down roles because of it. (She turned down a part in "Monsters Ball" that eventually went to Halle Berry and earned her a Best Actress Oscar.)

Bob asked her what she thought of both an African American (Barack Obama) and woman (Hillary Clinton) running for the Democratic presidential nomination.

"I'm in a quandary!" But she called it a "wonderful dilemma" to have.
